Easter Egg painting party

Friday we enjoyed a fun visit with Alex and his parents. Alex and K had a great time playing all afternoon. Sebastiaan also joined them but he was recovering from the flue so was a bit overwhelmed by these 2 enthusiastic 4 year olds. O did his own thing and a good time.

Saturday we had a blast with our Easter Egg painting party. We had bought 40 free range eggs. K carried them home all the way from the supermarket earlier this week. He wanted to make sure nothing happened to them :-).  He was very disappointed that he wait until Saturday before we could paint them.

Saturday morning we boiled the eggs and we made our dye. We checked out several egg painting ideas from hands on as we grow.

We used 2 recipes, vibrant egg colors which uses  180 ml water,  15ml vinegar and different amounts of food coloring (depending on the color). And we used a cool aid recipe, 1 sachet of cool aid and 1 cup of water.

The kids had a blast with the paint.  F&O came over and later on Nikita joined as well. A fun afternoon. Jamilla stopped by too but we had no eggs left  :-( but we did have a good time with her. O and she played with water for a long time.

Our Easter morning was fun...we took it easy..enjoyed a Easter breakfast at home...an Easter lunch at grandma's and dinner too! We had an Easter egg hunt at home and at grandma's the boys had enough chocolate for the rest of this year! We all played ' 4 pics 1 word' on a tablet.  ...we got pretty far 100+ pics guessed right..very entertaining.

K's favorite TV  program at the moment is Huisje Boompje Beestje. This week's topic was; eggs.  K watched it several times. He loves eggs.  They did an experiment with an egg:  fill a jar with vinegar and add 1 egg. After 3 days the egg shell is dissolved.  ..so yep...we have got an egg in a jar .

Another experiment this week was ...what happens if I put a glass jar filled with rubber bands and water in the freezer...and what happens if I put a plastic jar with paint in the freezer.

Cat!

K has  a special relationship with eggs. O has a very special relationship with cats. O finds cats in every book, he chases them around the house, all dogs are called cat and rabbits too. Cat is of course not his only word but it is the word he uses most every day. It is fun to see him so enthusiastic. I found a book with loads of cats in it...it is his favorite at the moment.

K is his cheery self again. He is not as tired anymore. He talks more than ever. ...he loves to share his adventures about school with everyone.

K and part of his egg collection :-)
We hung O's art work on our fridge ...at his eye level so he could see it.  He loves to look at his art work. He likes to add more to it too :-)

The progress of our spring tree...we added clouds & blossoms

Time to start suzuki classes with O

The woman who speaks English

This weekend we had a visitor who stayed a few nights.  K called her ' The woman who speaks English' at first but that changed to an enthousiastic Brenda! ...and a disappointed ...' where is Brenda...' on Sunday afternoon.

Otis discovered our visitor early Friday morning...when he was on his way to surprise me in the bathroom he saw that the door to his bedroom was open...and the light on...he looked around the corner...and saw this nice lady sitting there. He ...ran into the bathroom...saw me...and went back...looked around the corner again. After a few peaks he decided to walk into the room.  That was the beginning of a great friendship.

We had a blast these. Books were being read, towers build, songs sung, games played. Brenda got introduced to acro gym and judo.  We took her to Hema for dinner and Ikea for breakfast.

Big towers :-)
Marble painting with Brenda. We printed the result on a canvas. A K orginal for Brenda :-)
Look mom they have got the same kitchen as us @ Ikea  :-)
 Serious reading :-)
 the S for Snake..ahhhh scary
We bought the Ikea truck with wooden blocks & a magnet. O and K both love it.
Both K and O have been drawing a lot lately
The weather was great for a few days....warm and it felt like spring had started..this week back to cold & even heavy snows in the south.
K and I are in the mood for spring. So Snowman flag has been sent on vacation and we now have an apple tree on our door. We have been talking about spring and I am impressed...K knows a lot about spring.  So he has big plans for our apple tree :-)
K has watched an episode of Huisje Boompje Beestje where they talk about apples. He wants to plant an apple seed to see what happens...so we are going to start a milk carton garden. An idea I found on Facebook from grow food not lawns.

We got lucky with our easter tree this year. We got a few branches for free from a friendly gardner who was trimming her tree. We started easter art work straight away.   I also found last years art work but I am not sure we have enough room :-)
